As we celebrate Mothers Day and wrap the notion of motherhood in flowers, chocolates and trinkets of appreciation and love, let us all take time to reflect on the emotional needs and support for mothers in all stages of motherhood, as well as those mothers who never got to be.
Let us remember that mothers come from all backgrounds, and not every mother’s experience is the same. This is especially the case in the most formative stage of motherhood, the ante- and postpartum phase, where so many women suffer in silence. For those women, today - Mothers Day - might not be as joyful as the world expects it to be for them. If you know a mother dealing with difficulties related to maternal mental health, or someone simply having a rough time being a mom, be open, be supportive and be a friend.
